Linfield and rival Reds aim to put on show for Cup bragging rights

CLIFTONVILLE Ladies and Linfield Ladies are fired up to get their hands on the Women’s Premiership League Cup at Seaview tonight.

The Belfast rivals are determined to show how far the women’s game has developed in Northern Ireland while grabbing the silverware and bragging rights.

The action kicks off at 8pm and it will be streamed live on the BBC Red Button across the UK, worldwide on the BBC Sport NI website and will also be available on the BBC Sport app.

It will be the first domestic women’s club game to be shown live by BBC Sport NI.

Cup holders Linfield defeated Glentoran Ladies in their semi-final, while the Reds defeated Derry City Ladies to reach the final.

The Blues are in good goalscoring form and go into the clash lifted by a 3-0 win over Glentoran this week. Rebecca McKenna, Alison Smyth and Louise McDaniel found the net.

Linfield and Cliftonville will also meet in the County Antrim Cup decider next month.

Admission for supporters is free.

In the men’s game, the Northern Ireland Football League will today release the fixtures for the Danske Bank Premiership, Bluefin Sport Championship and Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League.

Saturday, August 4 is the big kick off for top flight clubs, with Crusaders setting out to retain the championship.

Fans will be able to view the fixtures from 10am.
