Everton journey over after Rooney pens DC United deal in Major move

-

WAYNE Rooney’s dream return to boyhood club Everton is over after one season following the 32-yearold’s move to Major League Soccer side DC United.

England’s record goalscorer rejoined the Toffees after 13 years at Manchester United last summer, scoring 11 goals in 40 appearances, but has left just 12 months later for a new challenge in the United States.

“It is fantastic to be joining DC United at such an exciting time in the club’s history with the new stadium opening in just a few weeks,” said Rooney, who has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract.

“Moving to America and MLS fulfils another career ambition for me. I have the hunger to be a success here and will give DC 100%.”

“We thank Wayne for his service to the club and wish him every success,” said an Everton statement. NORTHERN Ireland international Steven Davis is focusing on Southampton’s pre-season tour to China as speculation grows regarding a move to Rangers.

New Gers boss Steven Gerrard is understood to be keen to bring the Cullybackey man back to Ibrox.

Davis played 152 games for Rangers during a six-year spell after initially joining on loan from Fulham, winning three Scottish top-flight titles.

The 33-year-old also won two Scottish Cups and three League Cups during his time in Glasgow.

The former Aston Villa player has 12 months left on his current contract.

Rangers have already completed deals for Jon Flanagan, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Ovie Ejaria, Jamie Murphy, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor this summer.
