Riot accused teenager (17) is banned from Bogside
A 17-YEAR-OLD youth who was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday during disturbances in the Bogside was yesterday charged with four public order offences at Derry Magistrates Court sitting in Omagh.
The youth cannot be named due to his age.
He’s charged with possessing an offensive weapon, namely a bottle, in Rossville Street in the early hours of yesterday.
He is further charged with disorderly behaviour, assaulting a police officer and resisting a second police officer.
A police constable told Deputy District Judge Ted Magill that she could connect the defendant to the charges.
A solicitor for the Public Prosecution Service told the court the alleged offences took place during a riotous situation in the Bogside in the early hours of Tuesday.
He said the assault on the police officer related to the youth allegedly throwing a bottle, which struck the PSNI member.
Judge Magill released the youth on his own bail of £250 to appear before the Youth Court in Coleraine next Tuesday.
He also imposed a number of conditions, ordering him to continue to live in his family home, to observe an 11pm-7am curfew and not to enter the Bogside area.
Mr Magill also ordered that from yesterday until Friday, the youth should stay out of the city centre as defined by the City Walls.
District Judge Magill refused a prosecution application to have the youth electronically monitored.
