Belfast musician joins chorus of support as England go for glory

Alex Scott has composed a song in support of the England team AN optimistic London-based Belfast singer has released a song to support England’s journey during the World Cup — saying he wants it to bring people together.

As the team gear up to play Croatia in the semi-finals tonight, Alex Scott said: “I wanted to do something to make people feel how good they have it here, to produce something that we could all celebrate.”

The singer, who was born and raised in Belfast, wanted to show that despite political differences, people can still come together to support the England team. “We live in a politically charged society and it’s divided over Brexit,” commented Alex.

The song, which is called Still Dreaming/It’s Our Time, was written to be patriotic in a tongue-in-cheek way. “Given that the naysayers were so sceptical

about how far such a young team would progress, I’m delighted to say they have been proved wrong,” he said. “We wouldn’t have imagined in our wildest dreams that England would be playing in the semi-finals of the er Studio, based in the Oh Yeah music centre.

He plans to release the album in the autumn, and if England win the competition, he could release another medley inspired by the team.

One line in the song reads: “Remember way back in that golden year, we felt the atmosphere, we were dreaming.”

It refers to the last time England made it to the World Cup semi-finals in 1990, when they lost to West Germany.

Following the Three Lions’ win over Sweden at the weekend, he is happy that the team is doing better after their “poor performance during the Euros”.

And he added: “While I am uncertain who will win the World Cup, we shouldn’t write England off. Some of the favourites haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory, so who knows? We can still dream.”
