Belfast bonfire set alight after court ruling

-

Stephen Jones: Meanwhile, in Londonderry, republican youths continue their nightly attacks on the Fountain estate without the PSNI sending in a full panzer division. It’s blatant two-tier policing. They adopt a softly-softly approach in republican communities, but charge in mob-handed in loyalist communities.

Wilma Kilpatrick: Stephen Jones, I couldn’t have commented any better. They should be in Londonderry, as republicans are trying to drive Protestants out of the Fountain.

Amanda McCartney: Where was the violence? All I see was a bonfire lit and a crazy amount of riot police. No need.

Jay Mack: All those meat wagons for that? The war cry will be how much it cost the Government.

Craig Agnew: Amanda McCartney, aye because all the wee, chavvy thug bonfire builders don’t pose any threat to their community or the police.

Amanda McCartney: Craig Agnew, were you in east Belfast? Did you witness any violence? Or are you just another one that likes to give out their opinion, but knows nothing about what is going on?

Craig Agnew: Amanda McCartney, no I wasn’t in east Belfast to watch, as I have better things to do. Acting like burning down their own bonfire isn’t intimidation of the local community and the police is blatantly ignorant. Unionism is celebrated respectfully in other parts of Belfast, but by burning it to the ground, the boneheads who built it just show themselves more as idiots who ignore rules and regulations.

Manus O Dubhghaill: I believe there was concern it would be a danger, hence why they were asked to take a little bit off for the safety of people’s life and property. But, as usual, it’s seen as an attack.

Robin Kayes: So much for culture and tradition. Is that not what the bonfire is all about? Seems this isn’t as important as size or obeying the law of the land. This should be taken into consideration the next time loyalists complain about their culture and tradition being attacked.
