Yobs vandalise poppy wreaths at Newry Cenotaph

-

Fiona McCluskey Lennon: I’m a Catholic and stuff like this disgusts me.

Margaret Vaughan: Yes, Fiona. I’m sure it’s not done in any decent person’s name. But there are always morons on all sides who wish to show disrespect for the dead.

Rory O’Neill: Well said Fiona.

Paula Stephanie: Why feel the need to mention she’s a Catholic? Wayne Toman: Well, it was only a week back that loyalists attacked Craigavon/Lurgan memorial gardens of our dead, so what goes around comes around. But, sure, we didn’t see that make the news.

Kathleen Lynch: Surely two wrongs never make a right?

Nick Lennox: Wayne Toman, when you say ‘our dead’, what do you mean? And do you realise that all war memorials represent Catholic and Protestant men who fought and died for your freedom. If they had not done so, you may not have ever been born.

Tom Feeney: This is really sad. I’m not a member of any political party. I have a long-term wish for Ireland to be reunited peacefully, if that’s what the majority desires. My uncle (like a lot of young Irishmen) was killed in action in 1918 in France. This unnecessary vandalism sickens me. Robert Willett :There’s no jobs, no real work and little future for most of them. They’re easy to stir up.

Maura Moran: Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves. Just for the record, the people whose memories you’ve trashed are the very people who, through their (and their family’s) sacrifice, have enabled you the freedom to behave in such a despicable way. May God forgive you. So angry right now.

Paul Keenan: Their parents must be so proud of them. My parents brought us up to respect everyone, no matter what religion, or colour. Very sad.

Christopher Patrick: Imagine how much respect unionist culture will enjoy in a united Ireland. That line on the map is the sole guarantee of Northern Ireland people’s freedom and security.
