PSNI probe after woman threatened and windows smashed
A grieving mother was yesterday forced out of her north Belfast home by loyalist paramilitaries, it has been claimed.
The PSNI are investigating reports of theft and criminal damage after the woman, whose son tragically died only two days ago, was ordered to leave her home last night.
Sinn Fein MLA Caral Ni Chuilin branded it “sickening” and said the UFF were behind the threats. The woman’s home also had windows smashed.
SINN Fein MLA Caral Ni Chuilin last night hit out at loyalist paramilitaries after a mother, whose son died only days ago, was threatened and ordered to leave her home in north Belfast.
Only hours after the threats her home was attacked and windows smashed.
The North Belfast MLA said: “Police have confirmed that the loyalist paramilitary group, the UFF, threatened a woman and ordered her to leave her home in Oldpark today.
“Only hours later, her home was attacked and the windows of her home were smashed.
“These shameful and depraved actions were carried in the full knowledge that her son, who died tragically last Thursday, was due to be waked from the family home.
“These sickening actions must be condemned by all and the criminals responsible should pack up and get off the backs of the community.
“The continued existence of these armed groups is a blight on society.
“The PSNI needs to intensify its efforts remove the scourge of loyalist paramilitaries from our society.
“I would urge anyone with information on today’s incident to bring it forward to the police.”
Ms Ni Chuilin said that she had also contacted the Housing Executive.
She called on it to ensure the family gets emergency accommodation.
The PSNI said last night its officers were investigating reports of criminal damage and threats at a house in Summer Street.
A PSNI Inspector said: “Enquiries are at an early stage and we are working to establish a motive.
“We would like anyone who has information about this incident and can assist our investigation to contact us on 101.”
