Teen prodigy Owen’s Atlantic crossing to woo Canadians

-

It’s not often that a 14-year-old from this part of the world gets to perform on the other side of the Atlantic.

But then Coleraine’s Owen Mac is no ordinary singer. Gifted with a superb singing voice, Owen has been performing with considerable success for some years now.

It’s over the course of the last 12 months, though, that his talent has been shining through. His CDs have been huge hits on social media — so much so indeed that the offers to parade his wares outside Ireland began to trickle in.

And tomorrow Owen will achieve one of the highlights of his career to date when he tops the bill at the Holy Heart Theatre in St John’s, Newfoundland.

It’s certainly a long way from the rural venues at which he started his career in Co Londonderry, but you can rest assured that Owen is very much up for it.

“I’m really looking forward to performing in Canada,” he says.

“This will be a whole new challenge for me.

I never thought when I began singing that I would get to experience something like this but I aim to enjoy it as much as it can.” His father Denis (below), himself a noted entertainer who has had much to do with fashioning Owen’s future, will also be on the bill as will well-known Donegal comedian Conal Gallen.

“I think we will have a good mixture of country music and comedy to offer and hopefully it will be well received,” adds a proud Owen.

This could well prove to be the first of several trans-Atlantic trips for the talented but disarmingly modest Owen who looks destined to go a long way in the entertainment business.

For the moment, though, he is picking his steps carefully and tomorrow should see him write the most exciting chapter in his career to date.
