Cost of a united Ireland doesn’t add up, says Simon Hamilton

-

Freda Murphy: Perhaps the DUP, should look and learn, jobs are heading South faster than they realize, even [Jacob Rees-] Mogg has moved his investment company to Dublin.

Séamus Ó’Murchú: Why would anyone trust the DUP again when they talk about costs?

Michael Lafferty: Anyone remember RHI and the money wasted by the DUP, in the UK, in the North of Ireland? Kind of sad that the DUP have to talk economics here.

Colin Morrison: Brexit doesn’t either. At least the EU will help in the meantime — Brexit Britain couldn’t care less.

Douglas Simmons: Says Simon Hamilton the then finance minister who was opposed to Brexit.

Kevin Jackson: Brexit will impact negatively on Northern Ireland, paving the way for a serious, democratic debate on whether the 6 Counties will be better off or not in a reunified Ireland?

Michael Fusco: I know where I’d rather be when EU collapses! How long do you think Germany can bankroll it?! Italy’s economy is pretty much about to go down and would be 100 times worse than Greece. U really think Dublin wants our debt ? Over 60% of NI work for government with nice pensions, they would be mad to give that up.

Séamus Ó’Murchú: Where? From next year the UK are the only country with absolutely no country to trade with.

Michael Fusco: Day to day trading wont stop, life will go on as normal, sure we haven’t had a government in Stormont, what has changed? You really think all big multi-national corporations would let this go? As much as we are a small market we are still a market of a million or so consumers so still money to be made. Obviously there will be winners and losers but NI being open to world investment is great.

GR Rutherford: We already trade with the rest of world but we will be 20% + more competitive after we lose EU tariffs.

Jason O’Connell: Which EU tariffs are currently in place that make you 20% less competitive?
