Ward promising fireworks on biggest night of his career
STEVEN Ward is in for a test when he boxes Steve Collins junior on the Windsor Park undercard tonight.
Ward has reeled off seven consecutive victories since his debut in 2016, but none of those journeymen arrived with the same ambition as this Dublin opponent.
Nicknamed ‘The Quiet Man’, Ward knows that a victory over Collins Jr, who has won 12 of his 14 contests, will make some noise domestically in the light-heavyweight division. The BUI Celtic title is on the line.
“It’s the biggest night of my career and a massive night for boxing in general,” said Ward. “I know Steve and he’s a nice guy. So many people come out to support me in Belfast and I’m truly grateful.”

Cummings will be looking to make a statement when he steps in with
Brighton’s
Nicky Jenman over six rounds at middleweight.
Coalisland’s Cummings was last seen losing to Dublin’s Luke Keeler, who also boxes tonight, so cannot afford another slip-up.
Lewis Crocker (above) has been swiftly slicing through his opponents so far, but will have his work cut out trying to halt veteran survivor William Warburton.
Despite having 137 losses on the slate, Warburton has only been stopped twice and has more ability than his lopsided record suggests.
Two locals will turn pro on this bill.
Sean McComb and Steven Donnelly have extensive amateur backgrounds and both are looking to move quickly.
McComb takes on Spanish-based Nicaraguan Reynaldo Mora and is eager to get the ball rolling and grab his first win.
“Frampton brings a massive crowd so hopefully I can put on a decent show,” said McComb.
Donnelly, meanwhile, tackles Kevin McCauley in a super-welterweight four-rounder.
Boxing in the 2016 Olympics was a highlight for decorated Ballymena amateur Donnelly who won bronze at two Commonwealth Games.
Marc McCullough is hoping to land a shot at British super-featherweight champion Sam Bowen in early October.
The Belfast boxer must first negotiate a way past Sunderland livewire Jordan Ellison.
