Eirene can bid rivals goodnight at Chelmsford

EIRENE has been set some tough tasks so far this year, but she can make the most of a drop in company for the Greene King IPA Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at Chelmsford.

A Listed winner and Group Three-placed as a juvenile, it is easy to see why Dean Ivory felt Pattern race assignments would be just the ticket this term.

While Eirene ran a crack on her return when third in the Nell Gwyn, she found the Pavilion Stakes too tough on her next outing while she was no match for the likes of Expert Eye when 10th in the Jersey.

Ivory then felt she was worth a try in the Stewards’ Cup, but she was never really travelling there and was pulled up with two furlongs to run.

Clearly it was nothing too serious that day as she is back in action now, but a confidence-boosting win would do Eirene the world of good and the conditions give her every chance.

Kodiac Express was far too eager to do herself justice last time, but can bounce back with a little more restraint in the Old Golden Hen Handicap.

If able claimer Nicola Currie can harbour her early energy, Kodiac Express could yet pick up the winning thread again for Mike Murphy.
