Dundela extend winning run with Larne in pursuit

- BY GRAHAM LUNEY

DUNDELA remain top of the Bluefin Sport Championship after a 4-0 victory at Knockbreda last night.

Carl McComb netted just after the hour mark at Upper Braniel and David McMaster added a second.

Top scorer Jordan Hughes hit the target and McComb doubled his tally to help maintain Bryan McCarroll’s side’s 100% record.

At Inver Park, Larne cruised to a 3-0 victory over H&W Welders to stay two points behind the Duns. Paul Finnegan’s header in the fourth minute opened the scoring.

Darren Stuart doubled the lead with a tap in from Jeff Hughes’ cutback on 26 minutes and in the 59th minute Tommy Stewart got off the mark for the season, curling home from 20 yards.

The much fancied Inver Park side may have had to battle through their opening games of the Championship season, but Tiernan Lynch’s men remain unbeaten after five rounds of fixtures.

Larne added two deadline day signings with Fuad Sule and Benny Igiehon joining the club from Barnet and Boston United respectively.

Jamie Douglas gave Portadown the lead at home to Limavady United but Aiden McAuley levelled the scores.

Stuart McMullan fired the visitors in front but Darren Murray made it 2-2 to ensure a point apiece.

Goals from Thomas Robinson and Jason Johnston put Ballyclare Comrades in the driving seat at home to Ballinamallard and they sealed a 2-0 win.

Harry McConkey’s Mallards are another side that has struggled to make an impact this season so far.

Stephen Hughes’ side are yet to taste defeat in the league this season.

Gary Liggett, Nathaniel Ferris and Peter Campbell scored for Loughgall in their 3-2 victory over PSNI, their first triumph of the campaign.

Stewart Nixon gave Carrick Rangers the lead at home to Dergview and that was enough to settle the contest.
