Heat’s on as Line of Duty wraps up in Belfast
Final scenes of latest series are filmed at Obel building
THE nail-biting conclusion to the hotly-anticipated fifth series of Line of Duty has been filmed and is in the ‘can’ — as these exclusive images captured by the Belfast Telegraph reveal.
Our photographer was granted special access to the set as the final scenes of the critically-acclaimed police drama, written by Jed Mercurio, were shot outside the Obel building in Belfast on Thursday. And while the plot for the fifth series of the popular procedural drama — which stars Northern Ireland actor Adrian Dunbar — has been carefully guarded, we can exclusively reveal DC Steve Arnott will find himself once again in the line of danger.
The tense scene unfolds after Arnott, who investigates police corruption as part of AC-12, which is headed by Dunbar’s superintendent Ted Hastings, arrives in a black Mercedes.
However, the drama appears to quickly escalate given the presence of armed officers, leading to a tense stand-off with an armed man (whose faced has been blurred in order to prevent ‘spoilers’.)
Fellow Line of Duty regular DS Kate Fleming, played by Vicky McClure, wasn’t on set, but production on the series is set to continue here over the coming weeks.
Viewers, however, will have to tune into BBC1 early next year to learn of Arnott’s fate.
But fans of Mercurio — who earlier this week was unveiled as guest speaker at a NI Chamber gala event next month — can continue to get their fix with the explosive conclusion to his six-part political thriller Bodyguard.
Starring Keeley Hawes, who appeared in two series of Line of Duty, and Richard Madden, the finale of Bodyguard, which premiered as the highest-rated UK drama since 2006, is set to air tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC1.
The political nailbiter, which has gripped viewers with its story of high-ranking UK politician Julia Montague (Hawes) and her specialist protection officer, David Budd (Madden), has been a huge ratings winner, with around eight million tuning in to each episode.
