Tour to toast Causeway coast’s great restaurants and top food

- BY CHRISTINE CARRIGAN

A LARNE woman has launched ‘toast the coast’ to attract visitors and celebrate eateries along the Causeway coastline.

The food tour business was launched by Portia Woods after she realised there was a gap in the market for this kind of experience between Belfast and Cushendun.

The tour includes six stops at Whitehead, Larne, Ballygally, Glenarm, Carnlough and Cushendun.

Along with local treats, participants learn about the history of the coastline and can chat to chefs and proprietors of the eateries.

The public tour runs twice a month, but private tours can also be booked for a special event or as a gift.

The project was developed along with the Go For It programme, which provides advice and help with developing a business plan, free of charge.

Ms Woods said: “I got talking over dinner one evening and I saw there was a real gap in the market in part of the coastline from Belfast to Cushendun.

“We have some of the finest eateries and best ingredients along this route and they weren’t being explored to their full potential. We offer a selection of public tours which people can just book on twice a month as well as offering private tours.

“People buy the tour for a special occasion or as a gift. We have been really surprised at the amount of local people who want to go on a tour as well as international clientele.

“People have responded really well and really enjoy the tour. The success has all been down to the Go For It programme as they were able to help me turn my dream into a reality.”
