Lurgan Blues taking it one game at a time and won’t buy into

- BY GRAHAM LUNEY

MIDFIELDER Niall Grace says he hopes Mourneview Park has become a fortress again and the blend of youth and experience in the Lurgan Blues ranks leaves him looking forward with optimism.

Glenavon travel to the Bangor Fuels Arena to face Ards tonight with a real spring in their step after an impressive 3-2 victory over champions Crusaders.

With Linfield not playing, Gary Hamilton’s side know a victory will catapult them to the top of the Danske Bank Premiership.

And they should go to north Down brimming with confidence after superb goals from Ben Doherty, Mark Sykes and Josh Daniels secured a big win over the north Belfast side.

But while a few fans might be tempted to get carried away, Grace says the players won’t be consumed by the hype.

“We just want to win every game and see where it leaves us,” he said.

“There’s a real effort to improve the home form because we have always picked up points away from home.

“If Mourneview can become a fortress that will help our cause but this win is only three points and it’s important we can get a good result against Ards.

“Even though we are a young team we still have a lot of experience.

“You look at Rhys Marshall who is 23 and played over 200 games. Even though he is young he has that experience and you have guys like Jonny Tuffey and Sammy Clingan who can guide the younger players. But certainly the young players are adding energy to the team.”

Grace, a second half substitute for Andrew Mitchell, hailed a stunning performance against Crusaders, including a sublime display of finishing.

“It was an unbelievable game, I thought the lads were brilliant from start to finish,” he added.

“There was a 20-minute spell when Crusaders had their chances as you expected but we dominated most of it.
