Lindsay steps into Swifts hotseat

- BY ADRIAN RUTHERFORD

KRIS Lindsay was last night named Dungannon Swifts’ new manager.

The 34-year-old former Portadown, Larne, Linfield and Glenavon defender was revealed as the successor to Rodney McAree after last night’s thrilling win over Crusaders.

Lindsay makes the step into management for the first time after leaving his post as firstteam coach with the Lurgan Blues — and, ironically, his first game in charge will be back at Mourneview Park on Saturday.

Lindsay was not at Stangmore Park to see the Swifts win courtesy of Paul McElroy’s 94th minute penalty, but he is looking forward to getting to work in the coming days.

He said: “I’ve played under and worked for some great managers in my career and will always be indebted to Gary (Hamilton) and Glenavon for giving me the opportunity to coach at this level but I’ve never hidden the fact that I want to manage.

“When the opportunity arose here at Dungannon, it was something I was excited about and one that I couldn’t turn down and let pass me by.

“Dungannon is a family club with great facilities and ethos, and one that I have complete faith that I can get moving in the right direction up the table.

“It’s a fresh challenge for me and one that I can’t wait to get started with.”

Lindsay will take over a side with their confidence back after a stunning defeat of the Crues.

Dungannon dominated the game, leading through Ryan Harpur’s stylish 30th minute goal when the midfielder swept home a first-time finish following great approach play from Daniel Hughes.
