Ulster need to punish Racing’s mistakes, insists Peel

THERE is little doubt that if Ulster are to secure what would qualify as their most surprising win of recent seasons against Racing 92 in the Champions Cup this weekend then making the most of their opportunit­ies will be considered key.

Despite dominating possession and territory against Leicester Tigers last weekend, they trailed 3-0 at half-time in a game they ultimately won 24-10.

The deficit at the turn was largely the product of too many fruitless trips to the opposition 22, something rectified in the second half when Alan O’Connor, Will Addison and Jacob Stockdale all scored.

But to have any success in La Defense Arena on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off), they’ll have to be more consistent when it comes to making the most of their chances says the province’s backs coach Dwayne Peel.

“I think that has been the case throughout the season if I am perfectly honest,” he admitted.

“I think there are times when we could have finished some plays off, or maybe have taken a different option here or there.

“But it is just a work-on for us and we’ve got to make sure we get better at that week on week and taking our points when they come.

“The second half last week was good on some occasions. We were sharp and clinical, you think back to Will and Jacob’s tries and the driven lineout with the pick and go, we looked quite clinical there,” added Peel (right).
