Morris’ sights on revenge at Windsor Park

- BY ALEX MILLS

VETERAN goalkeeper Elliott Morris says Glentoran have revenge in mind ahead of tonight’s Co Antrim Shield quarter-final with Linfield at Windsor Park.

Both teams are smarting from weekend league defeats — David Healy’s Blues surprisingly losing for the first time, beaten by lowly Ards, while eight-man Glentoran had their pockets picked by Glenavon’s Jordan Jenkins.

It was Ronnie McFall’s team’s third league defeat on the spin. Although they will be without the suspended Willie Garrett, Calum Birney and John Herron, all dismissed by referee Keith Kennedy at The Oval, Morris (above) says the east Belfast boys are on a mission.

“We are not going to be downbeat ahead of the Blues game, we are not going to beat ourselves up,” he said. “We are going to get on with it, we’re going into this game thinking we can win it. I honestly think we can.

“Linfield lost for the first time at the weekend, which was a shock. It proves they are beatable. They beat us earlier in the season, but it could have gone either way. It was live on Sky, so players from both sides were wary of making a mistake.

“Although the Shield is probably the least important of the four domestic trophies, it makes no difference, this is a Big Two game. There is no reason why we can’t get a positive result — and get a little bit of revenge as well.”
