‘Callous’: Fred McClenaghan THE funeral of murderer Fred McClenaghan (57) will take place today in his home town of Magherafelt.

The service will take place at Magherafelt Independent Methodist Church at 2pm, with his son, daughter, parents and five siblings likely to attend.

The cold-blooded killer was serving a life sentence for gun- ning down Marion Millican (51), his former partner, in a Portstewart laundrette in 2011.

McClenaghan fell ill over a week ago in his cell at Magilligan Prison.

He was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he died on Sunday.

McClenaghan had served just one year of a minimum 13-year sentence after finally admitting in September 2017 to the murder of Ms Millican.

McClenaghan was tried three times over the killing of Ms Millican.

He had claimed the shotgun killing at her place of work was a suicide attempt that had gone wrong.

He successfully appealed his conviction twice, before admitting his guilt

Folloiwng the third trial, the police officer who led the investigation described McClenaghan as “very callous and dangerous”.

The news of McClenaghan’s death was met with a sense of relief by his victim’s husband and four children.

This was shared by her long time friend Pamela Henry, who was present in the laundrette with Ms Millican when McClenaghan burst through the door brandishing the weapon.

She said: “I was so afraid that I would bump into him when he was out walking the streets after he had served his sentence — this is a great relief. I still suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression, and I have nightmares due to what happened. I hope he burns in hell, that’s the place for him, and give us all peace.”
