Kate attends state dinner in glittering tiara worn by Diana

- BY TONY JONES

THE Duchess of Cambridge has worn a piece of jewellery associated with Diana, Princess of Wales to a state banquet held in honour of the Dutch king.

The Lover’s Knot tiara was Kate’s star accessory during the white-tie event staged by the Queen in honour of King Willem-Alexander and his wife, Queen Maxima.

Diana famously teamed the tiara with a white sequin dress and high-collared jacket by Catherine Walker — which was dubbed the “Elvis” look.

Kate wore the glittering diamond and pearl tiara at the Buckingham Palace state dinner on Tuesday with an Alexander McQueen gown.

The piece was originally made for Queen Mary, the Queen’s grandmother, in 1914, using pearls and diamonds belonging to her family.

Yesterday, the Dutch royal couple watched a dramatic anti-terrorism display inches from their vantage point on a warship on the final day of their state visit.

They were joined by the Earl and Countess of Wessex during the exercise, carried out in the shadow of HMS Belfast.

Later, the royal couple posed for pictures with the Queen before returning home.
