Klopp toasts Reds’ dominant display

Visiting goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was sent off for bringing down winger Hirving Lozano as the Premier League side led 2-1 with 11 minutes left and Luuk de Jong’s 87th-minute equaliser denied them a vital victory.

Tottenham are still without a win — and like PSV, with only one point — after three of their six Group B matches.

PSV had taken a first-half lead through a deflected Lozano strike, after the Mexican caught a dawdling Toby Alderweireld in possession.

But Moura then fired in an equaliser five minutes before the break and Kane headed home Christian Eriksen’s cross to put the visitors ahead early in the second half but they failed to hold on.

While Tottenham reflected on what might have been, Liverpool celebrated a dominant display at Anfield.

Klopp (below) added: “The plan was to start direct, we didn’t know how they would defend. We wanted to be lively, but perhaps it [the indifferent start] went on too long.

“It was good to see Adam (Lallana) coming on, the counter-attacking, the passes and Daniel (Sturridge) playing. It was a good football game.

“Fabinho was good from the start — Shaqiri was involved in everything. He is a really nice footballer and that helped. I thought he did really well. (Group rivals) Napoli and PSG played a 2-2 draw, but I can imagine it was pretty lively. It will stay exciting. “This group is a tough one for all of us. We have to be ready every day and hopefully we will be ready in two weeks.”

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said: “They (Red Star) are in the Champions League for a reason. “They had a bit of quality from set-pieces. At the beginning of the game there was a lot of chaos. After 20 minutes we controlled the game.

“We need to look at ourselves and win every game that we play especially at home.

“It’ll be a difficult game over there. We have to look forward to those challenges.”

“Fabinho won a lot of balls and made some great passes — very happy for him. All the players worked hard tonight. I’m very happy we kept a clean sheet and scored some goals.”

Double goalscorer Salah added: “It was an important game. We knew the game was going to be tough. The most important thing was the three points.

“It’s great — I’m happy to score my 50th goal for Liverpool. We know how to play with each other and know our qualities.”
