Harpur calls for Swifts to start delivering on their potential

- BY ADRIAN RUTHERFORD

CAPTAIN Ryan Harpur admits Dungannon Swifts need to find some consistency.

The last month has shown the best and worst of the county Tyrone side, who are bottom of the Danske Bank Premiership.

A mixed bag of results includes a win over Crusaders, a draw at fourth-placed Ballymena United and a demoralising loss against Warrenpoint Town.

Next up is a tough test against Linfield, a team they have beaten just once since 2010.

Harpur believes Dungannon have the potential to rattle the big teams, but need to show it more often.

“We’ve beaten Crusaders and drawn away at Ballymena, who are in the top four, so it shows what we can do,” the midfielder said.

“When we play to our potential, we can take points off the better teams in the league.

“There is no reason why we can’t beat anyone in the league, but we need to find that consistency to climb the table.”

Despite the sides’ contrasting form, Harpur is looking forward to the challenge of facing David Healy’s team.

“It’s a tough game but it’s the game everyone wants to play in,” he added.

“We are at home to Linfield at a packed Stangmore Park — there’s nothing better.

“We shouldn’t need much encouragement to get ourselves motivated. Hopefully we can get a result. Three points would be nice, but it’s about momentum and trying to grow confidence.” • FORMER Northern Ireland international Ivan Sproule is expected to be named as the manager of Dergview.
