FLATPACK furniture giant Ikea has teamed with two energy firms to offer a new electricity tariff in Northern Ireland.

The Swedish multinational, which has one store here, has announced a new venture with Big Clean Switch and renewable electricity provider Click Energy.

It said customers who switch will be signing up to Northern Ireland’s first 100% renewable domestic electricity tariff.

It follows a similar move by the furniture retailer in Britain.

Ikea and its partners have claimed the tariff will be among the lowest offered on the local market.

Managing director at Click Energy Damian Wilson said: “We are delighted to partner with Ikea UK to provide what is cur- rently the only 100% renewable electricity tariff for households in Northern Ireland.

“We are proud to be the first to pioneer this in Northern Ireland, as we make switching to renewable electricity easy and affordable.”

Jon Fletcher, managing director of Big Clean Switch, added: “Having worked closely with Ikea to help their customers across England, Scotland and Wales switch to renewable electricity earlier this year, we’re really excited to be able to offer a solution to their Northern Ireland customers.

“We take pride in working with ethical, customer-focused businesses, and the partnership with Click Energy and Ikea reflects that.”

Christie Gregg, manager at Ikea’s store at Holywood Exchange in Belfast, said: “At Ikea, we’re committed to having a positive impact on people and the planet.

“We also want to support our customers with innovative solutions to help them live a more sustainable life at home.

“By partnering with Big Clean Switch and Click Energy, our aim is to make switching to renewable electricity a simple and easy process for all of our customers.”
