Abortion and same-sex marriage amendments added to NI Bill

Michelle Kennedy:

For all the people who disagree with abortion law being changed, I would love to know how many of you volunteer for single-parent charities, mental health charities, rape charities or domestic violence charities? Or do you just care about these babies being born and don’t give a fiddler’s what lives they are born into?

Ryan Kurland-Wallace: Michelle Kennedy, well said. Couldn’t agree more. Kathleen Smith: Michelle Kennedy, do you think abortion is the answer to all those ills?

Michelle Kennedy: Kathleen Smith, do you think the people who call it a sin care about what happens to the child afterwards?

Pamela Redgwell: Kathleen Smith, consider where an individual has to be in their lives to contemplate ending a pregnancy. They need empathy and support, not judgment. Julie Bell: Michelle Kennedy, I’ve heard of that magical birth canal, where a foetus emerges as a baby. You go and tell those who fight to save the lives of premature babies that they are not babies.

Michelle Kennedy: Julie Bell, difference is these women want their foetus to be born and become a baby. So, they call them babies. I’ve had three kids — I know how it works.

Steven McGivern: I’m all for abortion. It does not matter what a person does or doesn’t do. They are free to have a opinion.

Bill Brown: Michelle Kennedy, the premise of this comment is factually inaccurate. If we are talking about pro-life supporters (most of whom come from the evangelical background), then stats show they are more likely to be involved in charity work and social volunteering within communities where rates of single-parent families, poverty, youth crime etc are highest.

Kirsty P Kennedy: No babies are killed in abortion. Abortion is illegal past 24 weeks (unless serious risk of life to mother or foetus has life-limiting or fatal condition). The reason for this is, at 24 weeks, the foetus can meet the requirements for homeostasis (which is a requirement for life), so scientifically and legally, nothing dies in an abortion — never mind a baby.
