Healy leads the way in St Enda’s semi-final drive
PETER Healy may not have captured too many honours in the colours of Antrim, but he is currently proving a dynamic influence within the St Enda’s side that is launching a viable bid for the Ulster club intermediate football title.
The Glengormley side followed up their recent county championship title triumph by overcoming Monaghan representatives Doohamlet in yesterday’s provincial quarter-final and will now meet Tyrone outfit Tattyreagh in the semi-finals.
It was the inspirational Healy who drove St Enda’s forward at and his first-half goal proved instrumental in helping the side fashion their 1-7 to 1-2 interval lead.
When Doohamlet mounted a sturdy revival, it was Healy in tandem with Joe Maskey and Odhran Eastwood who kept St Enda’s purring.
A second goal from Ruairi Scott and a late point from Healy took St Enda’s to their deserved 2-15 to 3-5 win.
Tattyreagh for their part just managed to squeeze out a gallant St Peter’s, Lurgan in a lively quarter-final at the Athletic Grounds, Armagh. The Tyrone champions looked menacing from the outset and goals from James Darcy and Jarlath McDonagh hoisted them into an interval lead with Fearghal Moore hitting the net for the orchard county side.
In a thrilling finish, Tattyreagh just managed to survive with Shea Geraghty drilling home a last-minute penalty to keep St Peter’s hopes alive up until the final whistle before Tattyreagh won by 3-11 to 2-13.
In the other quarter-finals Mullahoran were fully extended by Bredagh before coming out on top by 3-13 to 2-11 while Banagher beat Donegal side Glenfin by 2-13 to 0-8.
But Red Hughs, another Donegal side, came good in the Ulster club Junior semi-finals when they beat fancied Emyvale by 1-13 to 0-12. And Limavady Wolfhounds will be their opponents in the final following a 1-13 to 1-9 win over Aghadrumsee.
Donaghmoyne made it 11 Ulster ladies senior club football titles in 15 years when they beat Glenfin by 1-15 to 1-8 in the decider.
