Co Antrim tyre company snaps up Fermanagh firm

- BY MARGARET CANNING

A TYRE management company in Co Antrim has bought another business to secure a foothold in the west of the province.

Kerr’s Tyres and Auto, which rents out tyres to haulage companies as well as selling them to a range of customers, said it had paid an undisclosed sum for M&S Tyres in Enniskillen. The Co Fermanagh firm has been trading for over three decades.

Kerr’s, a family-run company, said the deal would strengthen its regional coverage.

And it’s understood the company may announce an even bigger deal over the next few weeks.

It said it had kept on all four members of staff at M&S Tyres and was also actively recruiting. Managing director and founder Norman Kerr said: “There were a number of compelling reasons to complete this transaction.

“Kerr’s Tyres & Auto is a family run business as was M&S Tyres. It not only strengthens the Kerr’s footprint across Northern Ireland, it broadens our service offering, helping to diversify the business and build on its success achieved to date. The sector offers opportunities for consolidation and we will be looking carefully at how we can continue to grow Kerr’s Tyres & Auto.”

M&S Tyres in Enniskillen has now been rebranded M&S Tyres and Auto.

Kerr’s was established 16 years ago with a staff of three people, but now employs 55 staff with premises in Belfast, Newtownards, Coleraine and Antrim.
