Omagh rack up the tries as they send out warning to rivals

OMAGH signed off in perfect style, with the AIL now taking a break until the start of next month, as they piled on the points to annihilate Tullamore 55-17 in Division 2C.

Phil Marshall’s squad ran in a commendable total of eight tries against the league’s bottom side — Tullamore’s only win has been against Bangor — and took ownership of fourth in the table after racking up their fourth win from six games.

Luke Hanson and Neil Brown both crossed the visitors’ line on two occasions as the Accies piled on the scores after only leading 13-5 at half-time.

Omagh snatched fourth place from Bangor who crashed to their second straight defeat when losing 15-10 at home to Bruff.

The side coached by Michael Ferguson and Lewis Stevenson — with help from Ulster players Stuart McCloskey and Craig Gilroy — found themselves 12-0 down before Adam Alexander and Desi Fusco managed to get them on the scoresheet with two unconverted tries.

However, that was as good as it got for Bangor who picked up a losing bonus point and slipped a place to fifth.

City of Derry also lost again, this time at Malahide where the hosts won 32-12.

It was Derry’s third straight reverse and they went down a place to seventh though they are only four points better off than basement side Tullamore.

After taking an early lead thanks to a Davy Graham try and Richie McCarter, the North West side were quickly overhauled and trailed 20-7 at the break.

They found themselves 25-7 down before Solomon Logue scored though Derry were unable to convert and Malahide still had the final say as they took over sixth spot from the Judges Road club.

Up in 2A, Queen’s University found trouble on the road as they lost 36-24 at UL Bohemians.

The students did manage to stage a comeback after finding themselves 22-10 behind and closed the score to 29-24 before their hosts managed a fifth try to seal it.

Tries from James Catterson (below), Curtis Pollock and Johnny Hunter had put Queen’s in position for a losing bonus point only for that to slip from their grasp though they did stay in fourth.

Rainey Old Boys look to have put their early wobbles behind them in 2B — they lost their first three games and were bottom — as they returned victorious from their trip to Sligo.

John Andrews’ side won 2717 at the bottom team to make it a trio of victories from the last three rounds and elevate themselves two places up the table to sixth.

It was by means straightforward for Rainey though as the sides were locked together at 1717 when the teams changed ends.

From there, Rainey — who were missing a number of regulars — gathered themselves to score 10 unanswered points.

Out-half Andy Magrath was top scorer for the Magherfelt club as he kicked 12 points, slotting two penalties and all three conversions which came his way.

Jason Bloomfield, Oisin Quinn and Scott McLean were Rainey’s try scorers.

There was no such celebration at Deramore where struggling Belfast Harlequins were hammered 36-0 by Greystones, while Dungannon lost 22-15 at home to unbeaten leaders Barnhall.

In the All-Ireland Junior Cup quarter-finals Ballyclare lost 2820 at home to Wicklow and CIYMS also exited 30-18 at Clonmel.
