Research on electrical safety and children

-

I WOULD be grateful for the assistance of your readers with a research project I am conducting on behalf of a leading charity, regarding the impact of poor electrical safety in the home on children and young people in Northern Ireland.

Every year, hundreds of children and young people are hospitalised due to electric shock and thermal burns arising from electrical accidents in the home.

There would appear to be a number of safety implications from children using an increasing number of electrical gadgets, including safe use and charging safely.

Therefore, I would be interested in hearing from your readers on their experience of children and young people using electrical equipment, particularly those who have experienced a burn from appliances such as hair straighteners.

I’m also keen to hear about any concerns about the impact of purchasing counterfeit and sub-standard electrical products.

A report will be published and shared with policy-makers, so this assistance will contribute to raising awareness of this important issue.

All contributions will be treated as confidential and any assistance will be appreciated.
