Cathy glory bid before wedding
IT’S all happening just now for Trillick ladies football captain Cathy Donnelly — and she is hoping there is more to come.
The talented skipper made the shortlist for the Ulster All-Star awards after steering her side to the provincial junior championship title by beating Cavan champions Lavey 0-6 to 0-4 in a low-scoring decider.
But the pace of life will be cranked up much more for Donnelly now that she will lead Trillick against Cork and Munster champions Glanmire in tomorrow’s All-Ireland semi-final at Trillick (1.00pm) and then focus on her wedding on November 30.
“It’s all happening at the minute but my whole focus is on this game,” says Cathy. “We had to work very hard to win the Ul- ster final and we know that Glanmire will be very tough opponents. I have had to put wedding thoughts on the back burner for the moment.”
She is one of several players who can help Trillick sample more progress following their provincial triumph. Cathleen Kelly, Emma Brennan, Nuala Kel- ly, and Aiobheann McCaughey are others who can make an impact tomorrow against a Glanmire side that has impressed this year.
Meanwhile, Ulster club senior title-holders Donaghmoyne will be up against it when they confront Dublin team Foxrock-Cabinteely tomorrow in their All-Ireland championship semi-final at the Bray Emmetts complex (1.00pm)
Donaghmoyne have been very much to the fore in Ulster over recent years and have landed 11 titles in 15 years.
But tomorrow they will face a side that is backboned by experience and scoring power. Their fitness, stamina and workrate have already taken them to the Leinster title and they now have the All-Ireland title very much in their sights — as do Donaghmoyne.
