Rival rallies to converge on Westminster for key vote

groups have announced marches to Parliament on the eve of MPs’ expected vote on Theresa May’s draft Brexit deal.

Ukip is planning what it calls theGreatBetrayalMarchonDecember 9, protesting against the deal which it believes does not fulfil 2016’s vote to leave the EU.

On the same day, pro-EU group Another Europe is Possible is to gather in Westminster to call for a second vote on Brexit and to oppose far-right ideology.

Another Europe announced yesterday its protest would oppose Ukip’s march of “hate and division”, and, explicitly, former English Defence League (EDL) leader Tommy Robinson who it claimed “recently joined Ukip”.

It said: “Tommy Robinson is not just using Brexit as a tool to attract followers.

“Brexit has from its earliest days been driven by the far right, and the far right will benefit from it for decades to come unless we defeat it and the conditions on which it feeds.” On Thursday, it was announced Mr Robinson had been appointed as an official adviser to Ukip leader Gerard Batten.

Mr Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is currently banned from officially joining the party under rules which prevent former and current EDL members from signing up.

Despite his high-profile appointment, Ukip denied he was officially part of the party.
