Lindsay delight as experienced O’Carroll signs on

- BY ADRIAN RUTHERFORD

DIARMUID O’Carroll said he is aiming to make an instant impact after joining Dungannon Swifts on a short-term deal.

The 31-year old, who has returned from working in America, signed for the Co Tyrone club as he was out of contract and will be in the squad for today’s game against Glentoran.

O’Carroll said he was looking forward to working with Dungannon boss Kris Lindsay.

“I am delighted to sign for a club and a manager that I’ve massive respect for,” he said.

“Whether it be for only one game or five, I’ll try my best to help the team out as much as I can. I’m really looking forward to playing with the boys and hopefully helping to get the team up the table.”

O’Carroll is Lindsay’s first signing, and the boss said: “I am delighted to get Diarmuid on board with us. Diarmuid has great experience in Irish League football and also has the winning mentality, which he has proved throughout his career, with plenty of silverware to his name.

“He is able to come straight into the squad as he is an out of contract pro, which is super news for us.”

O’Carroll will boost Dungannon’s firepower in the absence of Daniel Hughes, who is out for the next few weeks with a knee injury.

Swifts beat Cliftonville in the BetMcLean League Cup in midweek on penalties, but Lindsay believes the feel good factor from that win will help the players overcome any tiredness.

“It can be a little bit more mentally draining if you lose,” he added.

“On the flip side, we will take a load of confidence from Tuesday night.”
