A TEENAGER who collapsed at a property in north Belfast at the weekend and died after being taken to hospital has been named locally as Seamus Barr.

The Belfast Telegraph understands that police received a report of a male who had collapsed at a property in the Cliftonville Road area on Saturday.

The 17-year-old west Belfast youth was taken to hospital, but died on Monday. A post mortem was carried out, but it is believed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Barr’s death notice states that he died “peacefully at hospital surrounded by his loving family” on Monday. It adds: “Deeply regretted by his loving family circle.”

The teenager was from the Hazel Close area of west Belfast and was one of five siblings.

His funeral will take place on Friday, with his remains leaving his home at 11.30am for Requiem Mass in Christ The Redeemer Church at noon, followed by burial at Milltown Cemetery.

Meanwhile, the PSNI said that a 24-year-old man has been charged with various drugs offences including possession of both Class A and Class C drugs. He was due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court.

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It is understood that the charges are in relation to an incident at residential premises at the Cliftonville Road area of north Belfast on Saturday, November 24.
