Limavady hit a high five against Coleraine’s kids

LIMAVADY United turned on the style as they put five past a youthful Coleraine side to book their place in the final of the North West Cup with a stunning 5-0 victory.

The young Bannsiders were second best for most of the game as Limavady deservedly breezed past them and into the final, where they will meet Institute, who defeated Ballinamallard United in the other semi-final.

Scott McCarron was the hero for the Roesiders, scoring a second-half hat-trick in the win as the Championship side ensured their spot in the final.

The game was level for the majority of the first half, however a late double salvo from the hosts saw them go in at the break with a two-goal advantage.

Shane Boyle got the first in the 39th minute, with Alex Pomeroy grabbing the second just three minutes later.

The hosts were quicker out of the blocks in the second half too and made sure of the tie when McCarron struck in the 55th and 56th minutes, before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot just after the hour.

Meanwhile, goals from Seamus Quinn and Jamie McIntyre put Institute through to face Limavady in the final as they defeated Ballinamallard 2-0.

Quinn scored just before the interval, while McIntyre settled any late nerves with his strike in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

Last night’s postponed Mid-Ulster Cup semi-final between Glenavon and Dungannon Swifts has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, December 4 at Mourneview Park (7.45pm).

In the Bluefin Sport Championship, Portadown defeated Dundela 3-2 in a tight match at Wilgar Park to move up to third in the table.
