Police appeal after money stolen from Christmas market stall
A “SUBSTANTIAL amount of money” has been stolen during a robbery at Belfast’s Christmas Market.
The OutsideIn Christmas cabin was robbed outside City Hall at around 4.30pm yesterday.
Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident.
OutsideIn founder David Johnston said on social media that the money was in a bright orange waist bag and was forcibly taken from staff.
“The incident occurred at 4.30pm and involved two men, one described as tall with hand tattoos wearing a black coat and dark jeans,” Mr Johnston explained.
“Fortunately our staff were not physically harmed but are still shaken up.
“If anyone has more information then please do send it forward.”
He said the they would not be deterred by the theft.
“We will not let this incident discourage or stop us from carrying out our vision to rewrite homelessness here and across the globe,” Mr Johnston said.
“We have been so encouraged by all of your support and will continue to run as usual.”
OutsideIn sell a range of clothing, including beanie hats and jackets, with the aim of helping the homeless community.
Every time they sell an item of clothing, another is given to help someone in need.
Police said they are investigating a theft from a stall at the market.
“At around 4.45pm it was reported that a male snatched a bag containing a sum of cash from a stall in the market,” the PSNI said.
“The male is described as being aged in his 40s, approximately 6ft tall and of heavy build.
“He was wearing a dark coloured coat and dark jeans.
“He may have been accompanied by a second male.
“Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact officers in Musgrave Police Station on 101 quoting reference 850 29/11/18,” the spokesman added.
