NI boss is called ‘Tory cow’ for May support
A BELFAST business woman who offered Theresa May some words of comfort as the Prime Minister navigates the UK’s departure from the EU has been trolled mercilessly online.
Niamh Taylor (42) is managing director of Belfast and Omaghbased digital marketing agency Digital 24.
When she met the Prime Minister during an event at Queen’s University on Tuesday, she told her that she recognised her strength in doing a tough job.
“I said, from the heart that, woman to woman, she has shown great strength and resilience throughout this time and that I had so much respect for that,” she said.
“I told her, ‘Well done’. She looked at me with a glint in her eye
and she said, ‘Thank you, that is a very sweet thing to say’. I posted my experience up on LinkedIn and the responses went crazy. The trolls are brutal. I have been called a Tory cow.
“I have not once talked about my political beliefs. I’m not into politics at all. I was called a minion and many other things. It was bad. My comment wasn’t about politics, it was about a woman doing her job.
“I just wanted her to leave with something memorable.
“I am such a big advocate of women. I have mentored hundreds of female entrepreneurs over the years and I see the struggles they face every day.
“They are getting up, they are facing come what may and they are getting on with it. I know what it’s like, obviously not to run the country, but to be a woman in business. I just wanted to say well done on continuing to do what she is doing and to have the strength to carry on.”
Niamh, who is a mentor for Women in Business, said she has no regrets over her words and would say it again if she met Mrs May in the future. Niamh’s LinkeIn post has so far been viewed almost 250,000 times.
