Tributes paid to man found dead in Portstewart
THE family of a man whose body was found on rocks close to Portstewart harbour at the weekend have said he will “always be in our hearts”.
Ballymoney man Adam Wilson, a cousin of Ballymoney UUP councillor Darryl Wilson, was found close to the promenade of the seaside town at around 11.15am on Sunday.
The PSNI have confirmed that they are not treating the death as suspicious, following the results of a post-mortem examination.
Posting on social media yesterday, Cllr Wilson said his family was “still trying to come to terms with this sudden and devastating loss”.
He stated: “Unfortunately on Sunday past at around midday I received news that my cousin Adam Wilson had tragically passed away in Portstewart.
“The circumstances surrounding Adam’s death are still unclear at this stage.
“The entire family circle are still trying to come to terms with this sudden and devastating loss.
“Adam will always be in our hearts, in our hearts he will remain alive.”
Mr Wilson’s cousin Lindsay Norton also paid tribute to him online, asking social media users to share the funeral details.
She wrote yesterday: “It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post.
“My big cousin Adam Wilson was the man found in Portstewart on Sunday morning.
“On behalf of his mum, dad and family circle, we would like to invite anyone who knew Adam to attend his funeral.”
It is understood that Mr Wilson was a former pupil of Ballymoney High School and Northern Regional College, and worked as a customer adviser at Spar. As news of his death spread, hundreds of tributes were posted on social media.
Portrush UUP Alderman Norman Hillis wrote on Cllr Wilson’s social media page: “Sincere condolences to you and all the family. It must have been a big shock.
“Thinking of you all at this sad time.”
DUP Alderman Sharon McKillop added: “My deepest and heartfelt condolences to you and the family.”
John Scade stated: “Very sorry to hear this Darryl. I went to tech with Adam and he was a good lad.”
And Paula Campbell said: “So sorry to hear this. He was a lovely wee fella.”
Mr Wilson’s funeral will be held at his home tomorrow at 1.30pm.
