Suspect in case of missing Libby remanded on unrelated charges
A 24-YEAR-OLD man arrested in connection with the disappearance of university student Libby Squire (inset ) has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with unrelated offences.
Pawel Relowicz, of Raglan Street, Hull, yesterday appeared at Hull Magistrates Court accused of voyeurism, outraging public decency and burglary.
He was arrested on suspicion of abduction on Wednesday night in connection with Miss Squire’s disappearance, and police said he “remains under investigation”.
Miss Squire (21) was reported missing on February 1.
Relowicz appeared in the dock at the court charged with masturbating in a public place, watching another person “doing a private act” for his own sexual gratification, and stealing vibrators, sex toys, knickers, condoms, photographs and computer equipment from people’s homes.
He entered not guilty pleas to all charges.
Relowicz stood in the dock and spoke through a Polish interpreter to confirm his not guilty pleas to the five charges.
Bill Waddington, representing Relowicz, said he would not be making a bail application for his client.
District Judge Fred Rutherford told the defendant that the matters had been referred to Hull Crown Court where he is due to appear on March 11. Afterwards, Detective Superintendent Matt Hutchinson said in a statement: “We are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Libby Squire and a 24-year-old man remains under investigation. Our priority remains to find Libby and support her family at this incredibly distressing time.”
The search for University of Hull student Miss Squire, who is originally from Buckinghamshire, entered its eleventh day yesterday.
According to police, Miss Squire was seen taking a taxi from a nightclub on the evening of Thursday, January 31.
Officers said she was dropped off near her home at around 11.29pm.
She was then seen near a bench on Beverley Road around 10 minutes later.
It is understood that police are examining CCTV footage, obtained by ITV News, which shows a man getting in and out of a car minutes after the last sighting of the philosophy student.
In the video the unidentified man is seen opening the front passenger door and moving around, before getting behind the wheel and driving away at around 12.09am on Friday, February 1.
