Patton’s double inspires Swifts fightback

in the early stages, and soon found themselves 2-0 adrift.

The first came in the seventh minute. Picking up possession a few yards outside his own box, Danny Wallace ran forward unchallenged before drilling home.

It soon got worse for the home team. In the 26th minute a throw was played in to Watters. Seanan Clucas came back to challenge but it ran to Marc Griffin, who scored with a shot on the turn.

It looked grim for Dungannon, but they were handed a lifeline in the 37 th minute.

Rhyss Campbell won the ball, drove into the box and crossed to Patton, who scored.

Goalkeeper Alex Moore came to Dungannon’s rescue twice at the start of the second half.

First Watters ran onto a through-ball but Moore saved well. Then Griffin’s clever pass released Philip Donnelly, but Moore got a touch to his shot.

Yet he was beaten in the 52nd minute as Warrenpoint made it 3-1. Donnelly did well to stay on his feet amid pressure and pulled the ball back to Watters, who slammed it into the net.

But the Swifts were back in it again just three minutes later.

Patton’s cross panicked the visitors’ defence and Hernany Macedo turned it into his own net.

Hughes made it 3-3 when he collected a through ball and lifted it over the goalkeeper. And a storming comeback was competed by Patton, who nodded home.

Warrenpoint were reduced to 10 men late on when Anto Reilly was shown a second yellow.
