Music executive behind plan for new attraction at former ferry terminal
A FORMER London-based music industry executive is behind a bid to convert a passenger ferry terminal in Belfast into a new public attraction and visitor experience project, it has emerged.
Tim Prior, who has had a 40year career in the entertainment industry, is a former director and board member of BMG (UK).
He is listed among the directors of a new start-up company, which has revealed a bid to turn the quay into a new attraction.
Teliporter KL Ltd notified Belfast City Council’s planning department on Monday of its plans for the Ballast Quay, which sits directly across Belfast Lough from Titanic Belfast and Titanic Film Studios.
The company has appointed Mullarkey Pedersen Architects to act as agents on its behalf.
The Londonderry-based firm’s portfolio includes the North West Regional College and the restoration of St Columb’s Cathedral in Derry.
While it could be some weeks before an application is formally submitted, the company has indicated that its bid will feature interior and exterior exhibition areas, associated activities, facilities and signage, along with provision for car and bus parking.
In 2015 the former Stena terminal was transformed into a film set for the big screen adaptation of JG Ballard’s High-Rise, which starred Jeremy Irons and Tom Hiddleston.
Recently, the quay has become the interim base for the Belfast to Heysham crossing during the £15m redevelopment of Victoria Terminal 2. The work is being carried out ahead of the arrival of Stena Line’s new e-flexer ships from China next year.
Teliporter KL, which was incorporated on July 12, lists its base as Studio 9, in London’s Cole Street.
Its directors include Eric McClean, Daniel Oakes and Tim Prior.
Mr Prior is also a director of UK and Australian based Super-Heavy Management, which specialises in touring, festivals, exhibitions and merchandise.
His company CV describes a 40-year career spent between London and Los Angeles, working as an international artist manager and corporate and independent record and publishing company executive.
A public event to outline more details on the project is due to take place on September 25.
