All aboard... former Tyrone railway station on the market for over £190k

- BY DONNA DEENEY

BUYERS are being sought for a former Co Tyrone railway station house steeped in history and set in the stunning surrounds of Kilskeery hamlet on the Irvinestown Road.

Bundoran Junction Station House dates back to 1854, and from then until 1957, it was a much-loved stop on the way to the seaside.

During war time, people boarding or departing from trains here were famously serenaded by the violin-making station master.

This four bedroom property — which sits on a 6.75-acre site that provides privacy and all the attractions of rural living — was first featured in the Fermanagh Herald.

As well as the four bedrooms, the house has three reception rooms and two bathrooms, and is ideal as a family home.

Estate Agent Walter McFarland, from Eadie, McFarland and Co, said that at offers over £190,000, this listed property has been priced to sell.

He said: “This is truly a unique property which is full of character, charm and history.

“The property is ‘Listed’ as being of architectural/historical interest, having been an important railway station junction house.

“It enjoys a unique view of a beautiful twin-arched cut stone bridge, but what makes it special is it was one of the most famous and iconic railway stations in Ireland and was seen as the jewel in the Great Northern Railway’s crown.

“The house is being sold with around six and three quarter acres of plantation, so it will be a great place for a family with children because there will be plenty of scope and privacy.

“The price being asked for the house does reflect that fact, that it is in need of a bit of modernising.

“But with a little money spent on a new kitchen and bathroom, this beautiful building could become a wonderful home for some lucky family.

“It has just come on to the market, but interest so far has been good and I think that is reflective of the asking price and of the property itself and where it is situated.”
