A farm girl and rival suitors

Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, this is the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors, cowboy Curly McLain and sinister farmhand Jud Fry.

Packed full of family favourite show tunes like Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’ and Kansas City, it features a company of more than 70 Belfast performers, aged from 8-77.

We’re journeying back to the Ireland of the 1960s, on the road with the company of the legendary Miami Showband, whose hits included Simple Simon Says, From The Candy Store and Clap Your Hands, Stomp Your Feet. Told through the eyes of Miami songwriter­s, Fran O’Toole and Des Lee, the musical takes us through the joyous dancehall days of the 1960s to the tragedy in 1975.

FrielFest, St Columba’s Church, Omagh August 16, 7.30pm

Set in 563AD on the island of Iona where Columba spent 34 years, Brian Friel’s drama (left )is an imaginativ­e account of St Columba’s voluntary exile. The play concentrat­es on the private Columba, a charismati­c, worldly personalit­y who struggled to combine skills of scholar, bard and ruler, and explores the theme of exile.

Kabosh is restaging the original performed reading, but this time with an all-female cast.
