Boys and girls invited to Junior Open showcase

- BY ADAM McKENDRY

THE Junior Open at this week’s ISPS Handa World Invitational, presented by Modest! Golf at Galgorm Castle and Massereene will be sponsored by global golfing company GOLFNOW.

The event is open to any junior from the ages of four to 11 and will take place at the pitch-andputt course within the Galgorm Castle grounds. Those who wish to take part need to attend the Interactive Zone at the tournament — where there are lessons on offer from PGA Professionals — and pick up a scorecard.

The Junior Open is split into two age categories — 4-7 yearolds and 8-11 year-olds — with both having a boys and a girls winner, each of whom will receive a brand new set of clubs and a junior membership to Galgorm Castle Golf Club for 2020. • NORWAY’S Suzann Pettersen has been handed a Solheim Cup wild card, despite having played just two events since 2017.

The 38-year-old will make her ninth appearance in the biennial event at Gleneagles next month, having originally been appointed one of European captain Catriona Matthew’s vice-captains.

Matthew also gave wild cards to France’s Celine Boutier and the English duo of Bronte Law and Jodi Ewart Shadoff to complete the 12-strong team which will try to avoid a third straight defeat to the United States.

The automatic qualifiers were Anne van Dam, Charley Hull — who is competing at this week’s ISPS Handa World Invitational — Georgia Hall, Carlota Ciganda, Caroline Hedwall, Azahara Munoz, Caroline Masson and Anna Nordqvist.
