Snow Patrol named as latest winners of Legend award

SNOW Patrol have said they are “humbled” to be the recipients of this year’s Oh Yeah Legend Award at the Northern Ireland Music Prize ceremony.

The award is in recognitio­n of the band’s achievemen­ts over the last 25 years and will be presented at a ceremony in the Ulster Hall on November 7.

The event will include a special live performanc­e from the band ( right).

The Oh Yeah Legend Award was establishe­d to celebrate and recognise the exceptiona­l contributi­on of a musician or act from Northern Ireland.

Among the previous recipients are Ash, The Undertones and Terri Hooley.

Posting on Twitter, frontman Gary Lightbody said: “It means the world to be receiving the Oh Yeah Legend Award at the NI Music Prize this year.

“We are humbled to be following in the footsteps of previous legends.”

Charlotte Dryden, from the Oh Yeah Music Centre, said: “Snow Patrol are an award-winning global success and they are wonderful ambassador­s for Northern Ireland.

“They have never f orgotten their roots.

“Not only have they been generous to their fans at home, but also supportive and helpful to many of our emerging bands, too. We are really proud of t hem and delighted that they have agreed t o accept this award r i ght here i n Belfast and perf or m at t he event.”

The event is an annual celebratio­n of world-class homegrown music and includes awards for best album, best single, best live act, best emerging act and outstandin­g contributi­on to music.

It takes place during the annual Sound of Belfast programme, a festival that celebrates the music of the city, from grassroots through to the most celebrated names. It runs from November 1 until November 9.

Snow Patrol’s popular songs include Run, Chasing Cars and Just Say Yes.
