Malaysian charged for ‘Nora was raped by tribesmen’ tweet

- BY STAFF REPORTER

A MAN has appeared in a Malaysian court accused of tweeting that Nora Quoirin was raped by tribesmen before she died in the jungle.

The 15-year-old, who had special needs, disappeared from her hotel the day after arriving on holiday with her family.

Following an intensive search operation Nora’s body was discovered 10 days later in the jungle, less than

2km away from the Dusun resort in Seremban where she had been staying with her family.

Prosecutors say Muhammad Zikri Ibrahim (29) claimed Nora (right) had been raped by “Orang Asli” — the Malay phrase for “native tribesmen”.

Telemarketing manager Ibrahim was charged with committing intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace via a Twitter account called “Zikri Armstrong” at 8.30pm on Aug 14, the Straits Times newspaper reported.

He was charged under Section 504 of the Penal Code and faces a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both, if convicted.

Ibrahim denies the police allegations.

Nora was born with the brain condition holoprosencephaly and was described by her family as “vulnerable”.

A post-mortem examination results showed that Nora had died of starvation. Malaysian police said no foul play was involved in the teenager’s death.

Her naked body was found by volunteer searchers from a hiking club near a stream close to the Tata Berenbun waterfall — a place Nora had expressed a desire to visit before she vanished on the first morning of a holiday with her Belfast-born mother Meabh, her French father Sebastien and her two siblings.

It is understood Nora’s body has been returned home to south London, where her family live.

Her body was collected from the mortuary at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Malaysia and was then transported under police escort to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The Ibrahim case will return to the court on Sept 19.

Last week Nora’s family said that they were hoping for “more answers to our many questions” over her tragic death.
