Red cards have cost us plenty of points already, moans Kearney

RED mist would once again prove to be Coleraine’s downfall as they were held to a goalless draw against Institute at The Showgrounds.

For the second time in only four matches this season, the Bannsiders were reduced to 10 men as striker Eoin Bradley received a red card for an off-theball clash with Thomas McBride.

Boss Oran Kearney was frustrated as his side failed to back up last weekend’s win over Linfield with another three points.

“I’m disappointed because we spoke to the players in great depth on Tuesday and Thursday night in relation to — and I’ve seen it hundreds of times as a player and manager — that when you go and get a result away to Linfield and everything that comes with it, to back it up the following week, it’s probably more of a mental task than a physical one,” he said.

On losing Bradley (left) in the first half, he added: “The two are tangled and they both go to ground. From my view, and I’m a good distance away, it’s hard to see and I can’t comment.

“The disappointing thing for us is that we have dropped four points this season from two red cards.

“The Glentoran game cost us two points and, for me, it’s cost us two points today because I think if we stay 11-v-11 and kickon in the way we did in the second-half and having that extra body in the box, then we could have got all three points.

“The discipline is not a concern as the James McLaughlin red card against Glentoran was a freak one and James plays on the edge.

“I have spoken to both players in relation to not only the impact it has on the pitch, but the fact it leaves us short moving ahead.” COLERAINE: Johns, Kane, Mullan, Canning, B Doherty, Lowry, Bradley, Carson, O’Donnell, Glackin (McGuckin, 77 mins), Shiels (Parkhill, 46 mins). Unused subs:
