THEATRE A brutally hilarious classic

-

Marketplace Theatre, Armagh Sept 19 and 20, 8pm

When the young Christy Mahon stumbles into a tavern on the coast of Mayo, claiming to have killed his father, he wins over locals with his talk of bravery and becomes an instant hero.

Local girl Pegeen falls in love with the playboy’s allure, but the dashing, silver-tongued hero may not turn out to be all that he appears.

Synge’s brutally hilarious classic looks at life on the margins and how far we’ll go to create a reality more engaging than the0 place we find ourselves.

This show is at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast from Oct 8 to Nov 2.

Kenneth McAllister is on tour in this 25th anniversary tour of Marie Jones’ play.

Matthew Forsythe takes on the role of Belfast Protestant Kenneth — and dozens of other characters — in a story about change and redemption.

Football fan Kenneth has always played by the rules, loving who he was supposed to love, living where he was expected to live and fighting who he was taught to fight. That is, until one night, a night in November at Windsor Park, when his life turned upside down and his goals are changed.

For box office, tel: 9244 7744.
