Reader’s defence of Johnson misguided
HAVING amused myself by reading Paul Clarke’s misguided diatribe (Write Back, October 4), I feel it prudent to clarify certain points raised by the ignorance on display in Mr Clarke’s missive.
Mr Clarke bemoans my alleged use of “intemperate” language in describing Boris Johnson as a jester, yet accuses me of “hatred of Boris” — a strong accusation.
In point of fact, I hold no hatred for Johnson, as such would require powerful emotion and the bold Boris is not nearly that inspirational.
However, he does entertain me (not necessarily a quality befitting a head of state).
As the comical defence of Boris continued, the English PM was portrayed by Mr Clarke as “a model of restraint”.
In June of this year, police were called to the flat of Johnson’s girlfriend, Carrie Symonds, as she and Boris engaged in an aggressive argument loud enough to upset neighbours.
This is hardly the conduct of someone known for self-discipline.
Finally, Mr Clarke, in his wisdom, insinuated that I’m a Remainer.
I have to wonder where he found that nugget of non-existent information.
Perhaps Mr Clarke would do well to become more moderate — and accurate — in his language when writing to this paper, lest he look like a fool.
