Leo Varadkar warns of ‘great difficulty’ on reaching Brexit deal

- Eibhear Browne:

Paul Bonis: Cheers, Leo. Because of you, we will be leaving with no deal. Let’s see how the Republic fares after that. I would like to see the people of Ireland realise that the EU is using them.

Anne Lawlor McGuigan:

Paul Bonis, it may be 800 years ago, but this is the outcome of it today. If you had kept your feet in your own country, you wouldn’t have this problem today. That’s what you get for plundering.

John Travers: The British offered a solution. Ireland and the EU accepted it. Britain then reneged on it. Offered some of it back and then claimed to have made concessions. Britain screaming about wanting freedom, but denies Ireland its freedom. Sauce for the goose and all that.

Kevin Connolly: You’re oblivious to the Benn Act, aren’t you?

Paul Bonis: It wasn’t a regional vote; it was a UK-wide referendum. Everyone was happy for it to be that way — until the results came in. The result should be respected.

Tom Neville: Northern Ireland is the most dependent part of the entire European Union on outside support. Between getting money from British taxpayers, EU grants etc, NI is a borderline basket case.

Anne Lawlor McGuigan:

It was the DUP that tipped the cart. They didn’t want the backstop or a border down the Irish Sea. They said it took away their Britishness.

Sharon Kerrigan: Can’t understand how they are willing to work on a deal when they gave Mrs May a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ deal. Now, they are talking again to Boris. Make up your mind.

Wilma McMillan: He should mind his own business.

For the love of God, just leave and stop talking about it.

Risteard O Muircheartaigh: If you want to leave a club, why would you want a deal? Just go and be the North Korea of Europe — a rogue nation, owing £39bn and unable to deal with the biggest trading block in the world.

Kevin Moloney: Leo cares more about the people of this island than the Tories ever will.
