‘Fixer’ Cummings is running the country

SO, who is running the country? By all accounts, it’s not the collective Cabinet. In fact, Boris Johnson did not even bother to brief them of his telephone call to Angela Merkel, so little do he and his “fixer”, Dominic Cummings, think of them.

Following said call, the fixer dissolves into another tweeted rant about the German chancellor — one can only wonder about its veracity, or is it yet another Cummings Trumpian fantasy, designed to ensure the false deal put to the EU definitely does not fly (as both Johnson and Cummings intended all along).

It is fairly obvious that Cummings was in on the phone call between Johnson and Merkel — the same call that was not imparted to the Cabinet, as this “gruesome twosome” are sailing their own ship, free of any ethics, or collegiate mores.

Meanwhile, the great ship of state wallows on, veering from one tweet to the next from an unelected, unaccountable official acting, one suspects, independently even of Johnson himself.

In keeping with his stint as Mayor of London, where it is well known that Johnson was work-shy, he now perpetuates that laziness in allowing his fixer to run riot with inflammatory tweets that are, in fact, fuelling an election stance, rather than addressing the most important negotiation for the country in living memory.

The whole thing was set up to fail anyway, so time to move on to the next phase. And the Cabinet? Oh, yes, them. Well, one does not expect responses, or reaction, from nodding donkeys.
