Man steals prescription drugs from pharmacy

PRESCRIPTION drugs were stolen during a robbery at a pharmacy in Dunmurry.

Shortly before 9am on Wednesday, a man arrived at the premises in Mount Eagles Square claiming he was there to pick up a prescription. Inside the premises, he threatened staff and demanded drugs.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: “The man subsequently fled on foot taking with him a quantity of prescription drugs — Tramadol and Diazepam — and a sum of money.

“The suspect is described as being approximately 5’ 8” tall, believed to be aged in his mid-30s with short dark hair, was slightly unshaven and said to be of a stocky build. He is reported to have worn a dark-coloured rain jacket and grey-coloured jogging bottoms.

“We are thankful no staff were physically injured during this despicable incident, but there is no doubt this will have left them shaken. This must have been a terrifying ordeal for them.

“I want to take this opportunity to appeal to the public to be vigilant and to ensure they do not put their health at risk by purchasing medication from an illicit source.”

DS Corrigan urged anyone who finds prescription medicine, or is offered prescription medication for sale, to contact police.

He added: “People should only take medicines in consultation with their healthcare professionals who have access to patient health records, who are qualified to assess their medical needs and can take into account the risks and benefits associated with every medicine.”
